Does a litigant have a right to know any 'legal opinion' obtained by the judge in his/her Case?

Before hearing a criminal Case the Judge apparently obtained independent legal Opinion as to whether the charges were justified or not. Would the prosecutor and/or the defendant have the right to know what the 'Opinion' was?
