What's the difference? (Art utensils)?

For those of you artists out there, you know it can get pretty frustrating having to use a q-tip for blending... especially over large areas. i've never tried a blending brush before. but i had a question- whats the difference between a blending brush, and a regular painting brush?? is it something different on the brush, that makes it blend??? thank you for your time ^__^
