What does it mean when you are killed by someone you love in a dream?

Okay so last night I had a dream where I was in a river and I saw the person I love but I'm not with coming toward me. I have loved this person forever but its impossible for us to be together because he is older than I am not really old but 4 years and it wouldn't work. So he came into the river where I was and said you can't love me and then held me underwater until I drowned. What does that symbolize? What does that mean? Loving him has caused me some emotional pain because of things (hard to describe). Please don't judge I just want to find the meaning of this.
